from the eastern seaboard, landlocked midwest
Last week, I threw some clothes, toiletries, snacks and my best friend into my car and trekked 850 miles through windy mountains, long haul highways and rural roads to western Illinois, to visit the family I used to nanny for. I visited the area last year (one, two) while I was still nannying before they actually moved there. It was lovely to see my nanny kids again and their parents, who are my good friends, my mentors, and who have always made me feel like part of the family.
We were busy during our stay in rural Illinois. We met the new baby (swoon), visited my friends' extended family (love), got a tour of the family farms (history), went fishing in the twilight (a lot), rode in an Amish buggy (again), rolled up to the Ol' Mississip (Twain), ate nonstop (vacation) and much, much more. I love these people, and I think I'm going to make this a yearly trip.
On our way back home, Vinna and I decided to swing into Pennsylvania to visit our friend, Lindsay! Our hang was brief, but I see Lindsay, on average, once a year, so I'll gladly accept any opportunity to see this gal.
All photos above were taken from iPhones. Most were probably seen on Instagram. Thanks to Vinna and Lindsay for letting me steal a couple of their pictures. Non-phone photos to come.
